Here in Miami, it is not hard to find the fashionably fabulous but it is always a treat to find a little something new. W Hotels has a new baby at Miami Beach. While the building is still putting the frosting on the cake, they are definitely open for business. We slipped into the Wonderfully sublime lobby, with music that was resonating coolness and several even cooler doormen, past the cutting edge chrome door. The lobby is a mixture of urban loft chic and Mediterranean Style calm. Through a tall, narrow passage and into the incredibly elegant restaurant Solea, I felt as if I was floating like a jellyfish through liquid chic reserved only for beautiful people. We went straight for the outdoor patio and into an oasis. Amazing in the heart of the throbbing Sobe scene. Lunch was divine,
served by attentive waiters. The chef is not busy yet, grand opening day was merely last week. So we had all the best: Wild Mushroom Ravioli, in a silky brown sauce and Ahi Salad with tiny Mediterranean olives and haricot verts. The scene was out of a novel and I longed to see the tables and seating areas filled with glossy Europeans and tall Swedes.
After lunch we wandered down to the pool. Water is such a calming and centering medium and this pool did not disappoint. The black edged infinity pool is accessed by a wide grand staircase, underwater. Black and white awning stripe lounge chairs sit waiting, like tuxedoed butlers, to cosset even the most pampered sun worshiping patrons. Covered cabanas sit behind and above so occupants can survey the scene from their private courts. It evokes thoughts of someplace more exotic than it actually is.
I have to say that the W Hotel is one of my favorites, but even in its infancy, here in Miami’s South Beach, I got the WOW again.
