Paris Fashion Week had so many highlights that the Grand Old City fairly dazzled under the thread and the needle. One such highlight was the Valentino Show at Halle Freyssinet, where the new design team, Pier Palol Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, have produced what some are saying is the Best Ever since Valentino Garavani himself was there. Indeed, the design and skill of each piece radiated from the runway as thirty-eight different looks scattered like petal of beloved Valentino Roses. This time, however, the team had some younger patrons in mind. The pieces, in-spite of the ruffles and femininity, exuded the edginess of youth as evident in the black leather ruffled suit and the metal stud protruding from sandal straps. Signature Valentino reds were mixed with nudes and done in leather as well as chiffons. But unmistakable were artistry and design in detail not done in most Houses. Sheers had glass beads sewn in dotted swiss pattern, sleeves were edged with lace-like patterns of beads, and one piece was breath-taking. Though not the final presentation, the gown had thousands of shimmering beads sewn into the all of the garment’s tiered ruffles. It was an impressive and stunning collection for Fall Winter 2010.
