New York City has seen and done it all. So when something this spectacular comes along to make everyone get dressed to the nines and tramp all that finery on the pavement for hours, then you know you have a Triple Crown Winner! That winner, of course, is Fashion’s Night Out. I knew that this was going to be a crazy night of fashion and shopping. I was totally unprepared for the biggest Fashion Party of the Year! 20 Somethings stood 10 deep to catch a glimpse of designer (and apparently major celebrity) Victoria Beckham. And though I stood with them, she is so tiny, that all I saw were the tops of a lot of heads (I was in the 2nd row!) What I did see was designers Badgley Mischka, Marchesa designer Keren Craig, designer Reem Acra, designer Thakoon and a host of others as Robet Verdi hosted the Designer Doggie Show on the 3rd Floor of Bergdorf Goodman’s. Judges were an illustrious cast: designer Monique Lhuillier, Socialite Tinsley Mortimer, Gossip Girl Kelly Rutherford, and now shoe designer Tabitha Simmons who sat perched in high directors chairs. The tongue in cheek event was the highlight of the evening.
As the evening progressed, and one rode the escalator up and down the floors of the famous shopping store, you could indulge in specially designed cookies or a glass of bubbly or a celeb or two. On the 4th Floor, I ran into tiny starlet Nicole Richie who graciously posed with customers and looked cute as a doll herself in blonde curly hair and a black lace cocktail dress with fierce black booties.
My favorite part of the evening was when, after leaving Bergdorfs to go out on the streets and view amazing window creations from every major 5th Ave. Store, I wandered up to the (fairly) new Armani Store on Fifth. Without actually line-jumping, I tweeted on of my favorite Twitter buddies, Tim Quinn, the Beauty Expert Extrordinare (who is gaining celeb status himself) and joined the party on the 3rd floor. The theme was Wine and Chocolates, but the Armani Beauty PR Team all knew I was coming and it was like a mini tweet up of friends (face to face, newly made). I couldn’t leave the streets without a few purchases (in the name of the NYC Aids Charity, of course) so I got the softest Fashion’s Night Out Tee at Prada, having already gotten the Balmain designed tote from Bergdorfs. Armani got me at the perfume counter, with the new Acqua di Gio, in that beautiful Miami Blue box! It was an amazing Fashion’s Night Out!
