The lights went out as all eyes searched for that first look at the Show of Shows during Fashion Week in New York. Donna Karan‘s long anticipated Spring 2011 Collection during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week was nothing short of Magnificent. Never does this tireless designer disappoint but this year she exceeded way beyond expectation. Even Fashion Royalty seemed to wait with bated breath in the Greenwich St. venue. Titled: Raw Romance, Donna Karan portrayed the feminine urban woman. Choosing a parchment and desert palette, each intensely sensual and yet softly feminine piece seemed to just gently caress each model as they floated down the long runway. Shoes, which were a very integral part of each look evoked spring in the tundra. Woven, platform, hemp and soft leathers gave foundation to each gracefully long and lean look. It was an emotional collection. From the music, parchment paper entrance and programs to the very runway itself, the symmetry of this deeply passionate designer comes through with her desire to celebrate the feminine. Gentle ruffling, delicious silks, brushed chiffons, stretch canvases, melange jersey and tissue paper thin crepes: all designed to create effortless feminine dressing. Everything was fluid from the movement of the models to the seamless presentation. If ever a Collection could stir emotional feminine power and grace, it would be Donna Karan Spring 2011.
