Dolce Means Sweet

The fabulous Italian boys have done it again. Spring will be white. Spring will be ladylike. Spring will be Opulent! Dubbed the wedding trousseau, Dominico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have put their superior craftsmanship into their Spring 2011 Collection. The runway was awash in pure white. Oh, it was not all the prim lady look, there were some amazing boudoir pieces of tantalizing sexiness. Some actually looked like under garments NOT meant to be worn on the outside. But the undercurrent of the show was Opulence. Dripping with crystals, diamonds, gold charms of immense size, satins, silks woven into cropped over-jackets totally encrusted with crystals; this was a declaration of the End of the Recession, if ever there was one.  Amazing attention to every detail from the wisp of a model’s hair to the lighting for the multi camera live stream, the design duo leaves nothing to chance. Everything is planned perfection. Gowns and dresses of lace combined with leopard and even a few black pieces were gently folded into the meringue of the collection. Handbags in white, leopard and crystals were paired with curve hugging ladylike dresses that fairly oozed sexiness. Platform sandals were straight from the 40’s with sturdier heels and wider straps. Even hair was set in the 40’s with relaxed chignons gently caressing the neck. Many pieces were the soft baby-doll look meant for the bedroom but brought to life at daywear. The entire show was a nostalgic look back to when women dressed for day, dinner and bed. These Italians know how to make a girl feel like a woman where it matters most.
