Falling for Jackets

“It was a blue jacket with brass buttons, quite new.” -Beatrix Potter, The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

Burberry Fall 2010

From time out of mind, we have all longed for a new jacket. Fall seems the perfect time to accommodate that longing but the question is which one? Designers have given us an amazing array styles and colors, lengths and embellishments. It seems best to narrow those choices down. So picking out a few from the garden of choices here are some of the best.

Tommy Hilfiger Camel

Rag & Bone Oversized

Chunky oversized jacket can cover over our entire outfit and still give us a sense of layered style. Although grey is coming back in a big way for Fall and Winter, Classic Camel can makes anyone feel luxurious chic.

DKNY Toggle
Nanette Lepore Cape

Kensie Ruffle Jacket

From buttons and toggles to buckles and chains; embellishments have given jackets major wake-up call. More fun and definitely more interesting, these little details are just what we need to keep our mind off any dreary weather.

Mackage Leather

Leather is so hot it has invaded the fashion industry in every form imaginable and so much of it is of the black and sinister sort that this butter soft tan jacket from Mackage seems irresistible.

Ralph Lauren Belted Tweed
Tommy Hilfiger Glam Blazer

Boyfriends come and go but the jacket stays. Roll up the sleeves and carry on. Blazers have taken on quite a starring role in Fall wear. Throw over a cocktail look for edgy sophistication or go tweed for “just in from the country house” look.

Armani Exchange
Milly Check Pea
Marc by Marc Jacobs

The classic Pea-Coat has gone through some major renovations this Fall. Expect to see it in bright colors, checks and that misty Fall grey.

Burberry
Marc by Marc Jacobs

Bring out the Brass, Military is so hot for Fall that most department stores have entire sections devoted to the look. Some designers understand that it takes more than a double row of buttons to pull of this look authentically. In olive drab, navy blue or even brighter colors, this is the IT look for fall.

Fur is the new black for Fall. Like it or not, faux or real, figure out where you stand and then get thee to your nearest shop and spice up that outerwear wardrobe. You will find it everywhere from collars to cuffs and even entire jackets all fuzzed up with lovely, luxurious FUR!
Just Cavalli
Rebecca Taylor
Find the clippers, shear the sheep. Shearling is so cozy for fall that nearly all the major designers added it somewhere in their Fall Collections. Even though it can cost as much as the golden fleece, there are more affordable alternatives.

J.Crew Shearling-look
GAP Faux Shearling

Lacoste

Some designers just do not adhere to the “Fall must be brown and grey” theory and if we live in the lively land of perpetual sun, we are ever so grateful. So keep your bold color and go forth covered against wind and rain in flash bomb style.
