Fashion loves a surprise. It was a whole new world at Monique Lhuillier for Spring 2012. With racing stripes in black and cobalt blue, models strutted down the runway to hard vibe music with bondage ties and gladiator sandals. This was no feathers and fluff that we are used to seeing with this brand. Gone were the flowers to be replaced with straps and body con dresses that speak of Night in the City. The gowns were still there, though fewer of them, but they had a decidedly tougher edge, some even splashed with color like a paint bucket that has been dropped in the street. The intricate work was replaced with leather insets and tulle that seemed fishtail braided. Everything of this collection speaks of the street. The surprise was that the fluff and flower girl has grown up and she knows her way around the City.
