Donna Karan has again delivered her passions into her Spring Collection for 2012 called Urban Tribal. She highlighted the power of a woman into a work of art. Not just any art but basic, tribal, earth-born art that moves not only body but soul. The music beat to the rhythm of the innermost places within as models, tightly wrapped and bound pony tails swinging, confidently marched to the earth’s life force. The colors were scooped up from the rich soils, steamy mists, succulent ferns, shiny metals, velvety African violets, and deepest night. Dresses wrapped the shoulders in bands of tulle, pulled to accentuate every curve of a woman’s body. Organza and silks, nylon, viscose, canvas and poplin, gave volume and let in light. Waists and geometry were re-introduced. All said I am a Woman, I have Inner Power. When Donna traveled to Haiti she returned inspired by artist Phillipe Dodar. All of the accessories of this incredible Collection reflected the most nascent places of mankind. More than Tribal, each fantastic necklace, arm band, or wristlet was embedded with the elements of earth. Leathers, brass, copper, woods, even Lucite beads were clustered into dramatic statements. The Tribal Totem Mask throughout the collection merged worlds as elemental as the jungle and as graphic as the urban jungle of the city. This collection caught the heartbeat of the Earth.
