While the circus of Fashion Week spun like a Ferris Wheel down below in the Tents, an old fashion circus tent-like atmosphere prevailed up in Avery Fisher Hall across the Lincoln Center Plaza. Chris Benz was getting ready to show his Presentation. Mad Coney Island colors draped the semicircle as models came out one by one and were personally adjusted by the designer himself on their little “soap boxes”. Though he stopped from time to time for a casual interview, Chris was totally focused on his collection. Fun and colorful are way too understated when describing the Spring 2012 Collection. “I was thinking about the madness of what hot summers in the city do to your hair and an escape to Coney Island. My muse is a girl who never wants the fun to stop and doesn’t let it,” said Chris Benz (with totally hot pink hair and very blue eyes). Dresses in caution yellow made of sequins with neon tasseled collars, paint splashed ankle pants with striped sneakers, striped, scalloped, floral and oversized; this is a comfortable, slightly zany, totally fun collection. The chic and urbane fashion world arrived, had a look, said nice things, and had a lovely cocktail on the veranda, but I have an idea the real Chris Benz was somewhere on the top of a roller-coaster, cotton candy in hand.
