Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, Lana Turner, Lauren Becall; all the femme fatals of Film Noir were there. The leading ladies from the past emerged though a smoky, smoldering entrance making their way down the catwalk, slowly, with calculated deliberation in treacherous gowns. Jenny Packham brought the 40’s to life in this collection. She didn’t leave anything out. Dita Von Teese in her dark glasses, seated in the Front Row, only adding to the seductive allure. Models walked in towering Christian Louboutin shoes, one at a time and vanished into the inky blackness. Packham has been dressing some of the Stars of the world, like Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, so this move to seduction comes as no surprise. Her star is rising. Pave crystals on structured shoulders gave way to fluttering satin silks both shiny and matte. Provocative nude gowns covered in rain-drop crystals, slim belted and deliciously long in the red soled shoes struck the glamour on the perfect chord. Hair was tight and high in the Joan Crawford 40’s roll. Drama was sprawled all over the runway. Like a dangerous curve on a chilly night, this is a collection to be reckoned with.
