The 84th Adademy Awards not only had some good movies up for Oscars but some very stylish and popular leading ladies to dress. That said, we expect a lot from these ladies on the Red Carpet. While everyone was hoping for fun and games (but not too much) from host Billy Crystal, his microphone tinniness was so distracting that no one can actually recall what he said. With the focus on the gowns and the ladies that wore them. Here are the Miami Olivia Top Picks for the 84th Academy Award of Gowns:
Penelope Cruz was all Hollywood Glamour. A pale periwinkle custom Armani Prive gown, an otherwise difficult color to pull of on a Red Carpet, she glides through with flying colors. She is pure gorgeous glamour girl, if a bit Grace Kelly with her hair, makeup and accompanying Chopard jewels. Flawless, elegant and every bit a lady, Penelope is our winner.
Milla Jovovich, another Red Carpet favorite simply because of her riviting command of the camera. She and Karlie Kloss went to the same school of “chin down and stare them down”. She owned the Carpet. The stunning one shoulder Elie Saab gown covered in crystals that enhanced her beautiful shoulders was totally breathtaking. It needed only a diamond cuff bracelet (by Jacob and Co.) to make it complete. White usually washes out on the Red Carpet with the blazing lights, but Milla had her own radiance and shown like the Star that she is.
Color did not stop as Viola Davis, giddy as a school girl on the Red Carpet, shown in brilliant green custom Vera Wang with Mont Blanc jewels. She had recently thrown caution to the wind and decided to go au natural with no wig. We are trying to decide why she ever wore one in the first place. Her mother as hairstylist for the Red Carpet and her wonderful smile made her a favorite. Viola just glowed. But what is most amazing is that Vera Wang makes green gowns!
The darling of the silver screen Michelle Williams again went down the Red Carpet in a red(ish) gown and stole everyone’s heart. Every news commentator and Red Carpet interviewer gushed when she spoke and swooned when she left. Maybe it’s the pixie cut, maybe it’s her sweetness, but Michelle Williams is a Red Carpet favorite and she seems to get it right, every time. The Louis Vuitton peplum gown in what was decided is a deep coral, paired with the Fred Leighton diamond bow pin at the waist: Oscar Worthy.
Can we talk about Tina Fey? For years this girl has been hiding under a rock with thrown together looks, sometimes bordering on impudence. Someone got a hold of her this year and did some amazing magic. In a stunning peplum custom Carolina Herrera gown in deep indigo with dangling chandelier Bvlgari earrings, this sometimes girl turned into the Belle of the Ball overnight. All we can say is; we knew she was gorgeous all along.
Gwyneth Paltrow arrived later on the Red Carpet. This was a good thing as the Carpet (and Ryan Seacrest) had been recently dusted with the ashes from that crazy Sasha Cohen dressed in his full Dictator regalia, (and subsequently hauled off by security) and it needed to get back to what it is there for: The Gowns. And wow the crowd she did. This was simply a jaw-drop moment. Gwyneth, the mom of two and sometime country singer, stunned in a statuesque brilliant white Tom Ford column gown with matching floor length cape. Her Anna Hu Haute Joaillerie diamond bracelet and ring were her only jewels furthering the simple beauty. Her blonde hair was side swept and tied back, she exuded cool, calm, effortless grace. She actually had everyone speechless with her simple beauty. And all the fashion gods in heaven were making Tom Ford his wings. Wow.
Presenter Cameron Diaz sparkled in a strapless Gucci gown and one million dollars worth of Tiffany jewelry. Yowza. The cream chiffon gown puddled around the actress who was sporting her short “Something About Mary” breezy bob haircut and wide smile. Cameron always looks chic and unruffled by all the hype. She presented with pal Michelle Williams with the fun, easy grace of a seasoned Hollywood glamour girl that knows how to make it all work. She is so likable that it would be hard to find fault with her in any gown, but her choice of Gucci gave her a soft, chic, Old Hollywood touch that we love.
In a place usually reserved for the stars, Red Carpet Host Giuliana Rancic sparkled and shown like a gem. The Host and reality star, who has recently undergone breast cancer treatment was absolutely stunning in her crystal encrusted Tony Ward gown. She has certainly come a long way. Usually we prefer her hair down and in soft waves, this sleek style added to the elegant cut to the gown. She was remarkably stunning on the Red Carpet and seemed to know she hit it right as she was all smiles the entire night.
Last, but by all means NOT least, was Funny Girl, Emma Stone. Quickly becoming a Red Carpet wonder, this girl has so much confidence that coupled with her hilarity, she lights up not only the Red Carpet but the Center Stage as well. She easily outstaged Ben Stiller as presenter which gave the entire audience a clear view of her stunning strawberry Giambattista Valli gown. Normally a bow at the neck would make us cringe but somehow, with her red hair, flawless makeup and Louis Vuitton jewels, she looked nothing short of amazing. The gown had just the right amount of chiffon to sweep and billow when she walked. Her bright blue eyes lit the gown on fire. This girl has such a wonderful future of Red Carpet moments ahead of her. We are just beginning to appreciate her place in Hollywood, we hope for many more.
