Drama was high as the Zang Toi Fashion Show slowly filled with editors, guests and Front Row Celebrity. Billed in the program as “Glamour at Gstaad”, Toi knows how to create a frisson and he loves to end with a flourish. As if on cue, the first few models sauntered up the runway wrapped in sumptuous furs that they let drop in front of the photographers pit. They then dramatically dragged them behind as they slowly walked back. There was much more of an emphasis on sportswear and suits in this collection. Turtlenecks, leggings, skinny pants and shirts were shown in velvet, cotton and even baby corduroy. Several of the wool cashmere jackets and trench coats had beautiful attached capelets. But everywhere fine craftsmanship was apparent. A series of pieces were re-embroidered over lace in contrast black over white wool cashmere, showed stunning workmanship. The gowns naturally made a grand entrance near the end of the show. Concentration was decidedly in black until flame ruby red gowns, one with a beaded train, lit up the runway. Toi finished with what the program called the Grand Finale of a Brilliant Brushstrokes silk organza ball gown. Zang Toi show is regarded by fashion veterans as a True Fashion Show and not to be missed.
