Tadashi Shoji Spring 2012

The sun peeks out, the weather warms, birds return, flowers push up through the thawing ground, and women go shopping. It surely must be Spring. The long wait to wear fluttery, lightweight, colorful clothing is over. One of the most beautiful surprises of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 was another Tadashi Shoji Fashion Show. We have watched this designer move from the Box Presentation to a full runway show with incredible grace. Probably the biggest reason is that his dresses and gowns have such a wonderful flow to them that they seem made for the runway. He starts with some perky striped dresses and then heads directly into the fashion flow with gowns and cocktail dresses that practically float down the runway. Colorful chiffons, some detailed with lace, some with wrapped gathers that form to the body and highlight gentle curves, all with the Tadashi flow and femininity.  One short cocktail dress was layered with a full length gown of  sheer
chiffon over it, giving the entire look a muted, washed effect that was lovely. Tadashi Shoji is certainly dressing stars. We saw him dress Golden Globe and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer. Something tells us he is just getting warmed up. We have a feeling  that this unassuming, gentle, yet extremely talented and prolific designer will be dressing stars for years to come. Now we really can’t wait for Spring.
