It would be hard to be the first show in The Tents unless you are Nicholas and Christopher Kunz. Each season, the Nicholas K opening fashion show is the perfect way to ease into Fashion Week. The collection somehow looks easy and comfortable but when one looks closely at all the layering and use of color, the genius of design shines through. Much the way a beautiful actress or model can wear makeup in a way that looks like she doesn’t have any on. The silks and sheers were layered like scattering clouds on a spring morning. There were both men’s and women’s looks but Miami Olivia centered on the feminine styles. Satin layered with poplin anoraks and toggled jackets, the relaxed and cuffed shorts of silk with cropped jackets and layer upon layer of scarves left us in a swoon. Colors ranged from desert sands and mossy greens to flames of umber and dusty charcoals. There were even some misty mountain heather and lavenders to soften further and hint of foggy mornings on a country weekend. Half gloves, small beanies, and more scarves were gentle reminders of spring’s chilly starts. Softly draped jackets over satin beaded tops and silk pants; the vibe is young and layered with just the right touch of nonchalance to make one wish they were effortlessly chic and cool enough to wear Nicholas K all the time.
