Chado Ralph Rucci has the self proclaimed title of American Couturier. Since the designer is in his 31st year, he has had many seasons to perfect his incredible atelier. But the Spring 2013 Collection seemed just a little more true to course. The cut and workmanship went well beyond mere Ready to Wear. Each piece had hours of work, special techniques and materials that made this a Masterpiece Collection. The slick white lacquer runway set the tone for something extraordinary and new. And indeed the first look, a black crepe pantsuit with patent leather insets, was enough to take your breath away. His use of astonishing, almost neon colors in pink, yellow, and orange throughout the collection was part of the sit up and take notice Rucci theme. Models had half gloves of clear plastic with neon color slashed down the middle giving the collection an ultra modern feel. Some of the pieces had detailing such as leather braiding, tubes, and tiny pleating that sets him apart from most New York designers. Two of the most stunning pieces were a frock of white layered tulle with a bodice of braided yellow tubing over chiffon, and a white evening “birdcage” jacket with chiffon inlay. The standing ovation gave testament: Mr. Rucci is a Master.
